Have you been deciding on which electives you want to take during your time here at Parsippany High School? An elective that I am taking which I believe way more students should know about is business organization and management. In this course, we discuss a lot of real world topics that affect businesses and how an entrepreneur should go about dealing with them. It is truly interesting and engaging. It touches on the topics of economics, strikes, employees, franchises, private businesses, etc. We analyze how issues such as climate change, public opinions, social issues, government policies, laws and more affect a business. I am halfway through the year in the course and I have already learned more than I do after a full year in most other electives.
One of the most interesting and fun assignments we have done so far this year is a debate with the topic of ¨are celebrities and athletes paid too much?¨. There were a lot of good arguments and it was easy to engage in because this is something that you probably would discuss with your friends anyways, like most topics in this class, the difference is your receiving credit for it, so why not? Out of all the business classes, including marketing, economics, investments and accounting, I believe business organization and management does the best job of mixing in a little of what all the businesses classes have to offer but not to the point where you are overwhelmed, which I have experienced in the other four business classes that I have taken over the years I have attended Parsippany High School. Also, all the business teachers are great! Mr. Kandil teaches this class and he makes sure that you walk away with something new and useful every day and as long as you demonstrate that you can apply what you have learned and make use of it, you are going to excel in the class. Another reason I think more students should consider business organization and management is because it is a class that is guaranteed to assist you in life after high school, no matter what you are looking to major in. Whether you plan on going to college, trade school or maybe even looking to open up your own business, you learn something that benefits you in some way because everyone deals with money and people for the better part of their life.
You can apply much of what you learned to form your own educated stances or opinions on issues involving the economy, consumers, producers, the business world, government, laws, etc. Some of the major questions we really look into include whether it is more beneficial to own a franchise or open up your own private business if you are looking to do so, as well as which economic systems and policies are the healthiest for businesses and the economy. Also, there is for the most part, nothing that can’t be taken into consideration and discussed, as long as you have reasoning behind what you are saying, it is an open environment. We are now already halfway through the school year which I still cannot believe, time really flies when you enjoy your classes. I am looking forward to the rest of the school year and applying what I have learned in this class in life after High school. I would hope students take this elective into consideration because I believe it is beneficial to your knowledge and future career in many ways and the work is light compared to all the other business classes I have taken.
